Article 1: How to Feed Layers for Maximum Egg Production
Egg production is one of the most feed-sensitive activities in poultry farming. Getting the nutrition right can mean the difference between 60% and 90% production rates.
- Start layers on Layers Mash as soon as your hens begin laying — usually around 18–20 weeks
- Ensure fresh, clean water is always available. Hens that are dehydrated lay less
- Feed in the morning and evening to encourage steady eating through the day
- Avoid sudden feed changes — transition gradually over 5–7 days to prevent stress
- Supplement with grit (oyster shell or limestone) to strengthen eggshells naturally
- Check body weight regularly — underweight layers produce fewer and smaller eggs
